Derek stepped down on 1 January 2026 after seven years as Chair of the Board of Aquila Services Group plc. This is to implement a previously agreed succession strategy. He will remain a Group Director for at least a further twelve months to support the new Chair and to provide a focal point for the expansion of the Group’s international business.  He possesses a wealth of housing sector experience: prior to joining Altair, he was co-founder and Managing Director of HACAS Group plc, a successful quoted social housing consultancy that became a major subsidiary within Tribal Group, where he was Executive Director of Treasury Services. During his career, Derek has advised and project- managed housing and community projects for Governments and cities spanning Asia, Africa and Europe, UK government departments, local authorities, housing associations, commercial property companies, investors and financial institutions. In addition to structuring joint ventures for numerous organisations. He has also worked as both editor and guest editor of Social Housing Magazine and written several books as well as numerous articles on financing the expansion of affordable housing provision. Derek now divides his time between several senior roles across multiple organisations in the housing and finance sectors and is a consultant on a number of major funding projects for affordable housing.
